The Sound of Silence

The Sound of Silence

Reading Time: 2 minutes

I thought of this while listening to the song above.

There is an unseen, spiritual realm that exists; a zombie apocalypse happening all around, and yet the warning cry is too often the deafening echo of silence.  Silence grows like a cancer; it gently destroys the spiritual eyes until only blinding darkness bursts forth.

But there is a spiritual realm where the lost are dead men walking:

“Their flesh will rot while they stand on their feet, and their eyes will rot in their sockets, and their tongue will rot in their mouth.”

—Zechariah 14:12

It is an apocalyptic virus that spreads unseen in the silence of good men, eradicating righteousness from the lips, snuffing the lights of the watchmen in their towers as the blood of the lost runs unchecked in the streets below, burbling with the thunder of silence.

Worse yet, the sentinel saint who sees the spread and remains silent is himself terminally infected.

“Now as for you, son of man, I have appointed you a watchman; so you will hear a message from My mouth and give them warning from Me.  When I say to the wicked, ‘O wicked man, you will surely die,’ and you do not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity, but his blood I will require from your hand.

But if you on your part warn a wicked man to turn from his way and he does not turn from his way, he will die in his iniquity, but you have delivered your life.”

—Ezekiel 33

Silence is stillness in the same way that the cold void, absent of all light, stills to utter, frozen nothingness, reaching absolute zero. It is a cessation of all motion; a termination of spiritual vigilance in the muffled, strangled throws of death.

It is the good man who does not speak.

Be brave. Speak up, even if it costs you everything. Eternities depend on it.

Truth dies in darkness; hope dies in silence.
