Today, Be Thankful

Today, Be Thankful

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Today, be thankful.

Be thankful for the overwhelming smile that lit up your heart when your son saw you while he was playing in the yard when you got home from work, and he ran to hug you, for the love you felt when you last embraced your mom, though she was too weak to hug you back, for the warm sound of your dad’s laughter as he greeted you when you got off the plane, for laugh of your grandmother that filled the whole house during Thanksgiving. Be thankful, for these are only glimpses into the joy God has in store for you.

That overwhelming joy that filled you as you baptized your friend, the kindness of that one confidant who helped you through your unbearable heartache, the way your heart raced as she said, “Yes,” when you asked her…the depth of love that drove you to pray in tears for hours when your loved one was in a tragic accident; when your daughter was unexpectedly called home. These are the quiet beginnings; the distant reverberations of the start of a symphony that is warming up in Heaven.

Where you began is not where you will end up—you started here, but you will not end here. THAT is why your life matters. What you do and think and say matters. That’s why you can’t give up. That’s why you can’t allow your inner light to be suffocated and blotted out by the dimmers in this age.

I love you, but I know that I don’t tell you enough. God loves you and has the beginning of eternity planned for you—He has already appointed the time and made the sacrifice possible to make it happen.

I am so thankful for you, but I know that I don’t express it well. God loves you, I love you, and we get to spend eternity together. Today, be thankful, and don’t give up. “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death will not exist any more—or mourning, or crying, or pain, for the former things have ceased to exist.” (Rev 21:4)

With love, always,

-Luke
