Wearing Hats While Praying (Also Hair)

Wearing Hats While Praying (Also Hair)

Lucas Necessary

Reading Time: 7 minutesSomeone once mentioned to me that a man was doing wrong because he said a prayer while wearing a hat. I did some research, and my very rudimentary notes are below. Please note: the article’s picture is nonsense. The Origin The thought mentioned above comes from 1 Corinthians 11:4, which says, “Every man who has something on his head while praying or prophesying disgraces his head.” OUCH! Hats are right…

The Valentine’s Blues (AKA: Why You’re Wretched and How I’ll Fix It)

Lucas Necessary

Reading Time: 4 minutesV-Day is on the way, and you’re tired of online dating. Let’s face it, even Jeffrey Dahmer and Hitler had a better love life than you. Why do some people choose to be evil?

Lucas Necessary

Reading Time: < 1 minuteEvil. Why do evil people choose to be the way they are? “You are no more responsible for the state of your brain in this moment than you are for your height…thoughts simply arise in the mind. But the idea that we as conscious beings are…responsible for the characters of our minds, simply can’t be mapped onto reality.“ —Dr. Sam Harris Without a God or dimension of intangible spirit, we…

Illegal Immigration and My Life

Illegal Immigration and My Life

Lucas Necessary

Reading Time: 2 minutesIllegal immigration is a tough subject economically, and, I believe, morally. As it’s often pointed out, people don’t want to do many menial tasks, and illegal immigrants provide us with an excellent labor class.   Yet in some ways, this is unfair to both sides, as it fails to integrate the immigrant. Without getting too much into the history of immigrants, macroeconomics, and the current state of affairs, I’d like to offer…

Atheism in Regards to Free Will and Personal Identity

Atheism in Regards to Free Will and Personal Identity

Lucas Necessary

Reading Time: < 1 minute “You, your joys and your sorrows, your memories and ambitions, your sense of personal identity and free will, are in fact no more than the behaviour of a vast assembly of nerve cells and their associated molecules.” —Dr. Francis Crick, Human Genome Project  It’s this “no more than” that is important, I think. Under this view atheistic worldview, you don’t exist in a meaningful sense at the level of personal…

Merry Christmyth

Reading Time: 2 minutesHave you seen a meme like this before? I see people posting ones like it, and information like it, quite often. Is it fake news?  Let’s look at just these three, and in fact, not all of the points they make, because to be honest, that’s not a good use of time. Note: Jesus was never said to have been born on 25th December in any part of early Christianity…
