Today, Master of Art of Hanging on in the Face of Unyielding Defeat
Today, master the art of hanging on in spite of what seems like unyielding defeat.
Have you wondered with tears why God hasn’t come through for you, why He doesn’t seem to care about your suffering? In the depths of my own despair, when I’ve wanted nothing more than to cry out, “Maranatha, Lord,” I have. But I have forgotten that I already have the answer. In the end, Heaven will be the answer every prayer, to every hurt; to every problem.
Sometimes in this life, it may very well be that there is nothing that will ever fix the hurt, nothing that will ever make this right. There may be no words to make it OK; no amount of money that can replace what was lost, or not amount of giving that can take what you took from someone. There may be no doing over, or no amount of doing over, that can right some wrongs. Only one thing can make it right again: heaven.
Only Heaven can reunite you with your family. Only Heaven can really fill the hole created by a certain loss that you know you have. Only in Heaven will some kids be okay and healthy and whole again. While your prayers were not answered in that hospital, they ultimately will be by Heaven.
Today, let me remind you to hang on. Your story does have a happy ending—it’s heading at you despite all of the obstacles and loss, and it cannot be stopped, if only you hang on. He promises that if we are just patient and trust Him, we will not be disappointed in how our stories end.
As Paul says to the Romans “I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.” (8:18)
Today, hang on. “Do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison.” (2 Cor 4:16-18)
Hang on.
