Review: Exploring the Cirque of the Towers in the Snow
Reading Time: 11 minutes Visiting the Cirque of the Towers in the fall is a real pleasure, since all the bugs and instagrammers are gone! I had it all to myself.
Stories of my travels to the tops of mountains and the bottoms of reefs.
Reading Time: 11 minutes Visiting the Cirque of the Towers in the fall is a real pleasure, since all the bugs and instagrammers are gone! I had it all to myself.
Reading Time: 16 minutes This hike visits numerous lakes in a short number of miles. It’s quite beautiful and has some huge fish!
Reading Time: 11 minutes Temple Basin is probably the easiest hike in the Winds for an overnight, and it’s also one of the downright prettiest!
Reading Time: 15 minutes 7 Brothers Lakes is what I’d consider an “average” hike, on par with Blue Lake in the Wind River Range. It’s a nice little walk if you’ve only got one evening to spend away from work.
Reading Time: 10 minutes This hike to Lake Angeline, Upper Frozen Lake, and Lower Frozen Lake, is short and tempting, nailing 3 less-known lakes in one whack, but it has significant challenges and drawbacks.
Reading Time: 13 minutes This short hike begins near East Tensleep Lake. The horrors start before that.
Reading Time: 16 minutes Powell Lakes in the Bighorn Mountains presents a great hike for awesome fishing in solitude. If you’ve only got one night, this is fantastic.
Reading Time: 13 minutes This is a high-use trail to Lost Twin Lakes, but I had it all to myself for 2 days thanks to bad weather. I loved the fishing!
Reading Time: 21 minutes This hike uses the popular Glacier Trail ingress to Dinwoody Basin. It’s arid, strenuous, and has a beautiful payoff, but few trails will make you work for it as hard as this one.
Reading Time: 34 minutes This hike features stunning scenery and incredible history, but I have suggestions on how you can make it far more worthwhile. My favorite part is the crashed B24 bomber.
Reading Time: 15 minutes I didn’t like this hike. It’s long, winding, not made for easy walking, exposed to the sun, dusty, arid, and with terrible views. Its only redeeming feature is the fishing (maybe), which went poorly for me. I didn’t HATE it, which implies actively wishing it to never exist, but I’d certainly never do it again, and you shouldn’t do it in the first place.
Reading Time: 35 minutes The hike to Titcomb Basin results in great views, but I feel like it’s quite a bit of effort for a crowded, one-trick pony. (Two tricks if you put in an insane amount of effort and do Fremont Peak, too.) It’s better in the later season with fewer tourists, but I really don’t care for the trail in. The first 11.1 miles always suck, both coming and going, and I always want more than the views it offers. Still, I’ve done it a ton of times, and it’s a blessing.
Reading Time: 5 minutes A quick review of an un-mapped (doesn’t exist in any literature) campground and some videos of a fun time!
Reading Time: 3 minutes A fateful trip. The cabins were great, though!
Reading Time: 5 minutes Reviews of numerous things in and around Lava Hot Springs, Idaho.
Reading Time: 7 minutes Green River Lakes Campground is over an hour from Pinedale, Wyoming, on a dirt road, and features semi-improved camping locations both for reservation and for first-come, first serve. It has incredible views of Squaretop Mountain, and many people use the Green River trailhead to hike the Wind River Range. The only hike I recommend out of Green River, however, is Slide Lake. For kayaking to Upper Green River Lake, see…
Reading Time: 45 minutes This hike to Middle Fork and Sonnicant Lake basins features the prettiest scenery I’ve ever encountered. You’ll find numerous lakes, an altiplano, fishing, and rugged mountains, plus an unusual summit.
Reading Time: 83 minutes This hike is an absolute blast, featuring Leg Lake, Stough Creek Basin, Poison, Mountain Sheep, Coon, Tayo, and Deep Creek Lakes, plus a summit of Wind River Peak. It is the the favorite hike of my life to date.
Reading Time: 38 minutes Featuring Lunch Lake, Brewster Lake, and Shoal Lake, this hike in the Gros Ventre received my highest rating. Use the included GPS recording so that you can enjoy the Big Balls of Cowtown Trail, which many people have a hard time finding.
Reading Time: 8 minutes How is staying at Raymond Burr’s old residence in Fiji? Pretty dang great.
Reading Time: 20 minutes 15 miles, 6 lakes, and some nice views. Is the hike to Lake Gadsby worth it? This is one where I was left very conflicted.
Reading Time: 10 minutes The Windjammer Landing Resort in St. Lucia was a convenient and pretty stay—it was quiet, had its own beach, and the staff were great.
Reading Time: 5 minutes The bed itself was nice, and in a very pleasant little closet; on the website, this is listed as the “Valhalla Suite.” Well, it wasn’t a full-size bed by any means, but by curling into a circle, I could fit into it with the dog that I shared it with.
Reading Time: 7 minutes What’s it like to have the prettiest view in the world?
Reading Time: 8 minutes Reviews of Long Lake Trail, Half Moon Campground, and Soda Lake, Wyoming. All are located near Pinedale, Wyoming.
